Alwar Doc Awarded For 2,274 Sterilisation Ops In One Year | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Working as a surgeon at district hospital Alwar, Dr Ravindra Singh performed 2,274 sterilisation surgeries in the 2022-23 financial year in Alwar district, the highest in the state by any surgeon. For the achievement, he was awarded at a state-level function on World Population Day in Jaipur.
Dr Singh pointed out the persisting male dominance in family planning. “Only women come forward for sterilisation for family planning. Very few men opt for it. It is so even when male sterilisation is simpler, easier, and poses no risk as it requires only local anaesthesia, while female sterilisation is complicated and is done under general anaesthesia,” said Dr Singh, who started doing sterilisation surgeries from April 2022.
“A lot of women face rejection when they come for sterilisation due to health issues. In every camp there are at least 5-10 women who have low haemoglobin, or they are anaemic, which is why they cannot undergo sterilisation,” said Dr Singh.
