Sms Hospital: Coloured Bedsheets At Sms Hospital To Ensure Hygiene | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Different colour bedsheets will ensure hygiene and infection control at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in city. The hospital has procured light pink, light green and light blue bedsheets which will ensure that the sheets are changed daily. Currently, the hospital is using white bedsheets on all days. It cannot be ascertained whether they are changed daily.
“On the direction of the government, we are launching the initiative in our hospital. We have produced light green, light blue and light pink bedsheets. They will be repeated twice a week but won’t be used on consecutive days. If light green is used on Monday, then it will be used again on Thursday. It will help us monitor if the staff has changed the bedsheets. Once in a week, white bedsheets will be used,” said Dr Achal Sharma, medical superintendent, SMS Hospital.
He said, “We will start the process soon as we have already procured the bedsheets of different colours to control infection and ensure hygiene in the hospital”.
The hospital will soon issue an order on colours of bedsheet to be used on any particular day. To start with, the hospital has procured 2,500 bedsheets of different colours. In the first phase, the process will be started at Bangar building and main building, which has approximately 900 beds. There are around 2,700 beds at SMS Hospital and measures are being taken to ensure hygiene and infection control.
According to the health experts, the bedsheets at hospitals should be changed daily to maintain hygiene as it could spread infection. National guidelines on infection prevention and control in healthcare facilities include cleanliness of pillows, mattress covers, bedsheets and curtains.
On discharge of a patient, the guidelines make it mandatory to clean bedsheets, pillows and mattress covers with disinfectant.
