In a lawsuit filed against Joe Jonas in a Manhattan court on Thursday, Sophie Turner has asked for her kids Willa, 3, and a daughter, 14 months, whose name hasn’t been disclosed yet, to be returned to England.
Turner, said in her legal documents that she and Jonas made a mutual decision to raise their two daughters in England and to relocate there in April of this year, before their marriage went south.
Shortly after filing the legal documents, a cheerie Sophie was spotted spending a day out and about town, running errands with her elder daughter. The actress was accompanied by her team on the causal day out. On spotting the paparazzi, the actress looked visibly upset about the media attention and was seen walking away briskly.
Meanwhile, Joe had the full support of his brothers Nick and Kevin. The boys, who were performing at their Jonas Brothers concert, hugged it out on stage after Joe gave an emotional rendition of his hit track ‘Hesitate’. In a viral video, Nick was seen walking up to his brother and giving him a tight hug.
Later during the gig, the three brothers were also seen hugging it out, making fans a little emotional considering Joe’s current divorce drama. The night before news broke about Sophie ‘suing’ Joe for the custody of the kids, Joe was spotted grabbing beers with Nick at a local pub.
Sophie was also spotted out on a dinner date with her girlfriends, including Taylor Swift, who has reportedly lent her full support. The actress was photographed out at a restaurant with her best friend Ellie Johnson, Elvis actress Olivia DeJonge, and Taylor joined in with longtime friend Ashley Avignone. After dinner, they were seen heading to GANT on Mulberry Street.
While the couple announced that their divorce was amicable, Turner alleged that her estranged husband Joe filed for divorce in Florida on September 1 and she learned about it through the media on September 5. After news of the the divorce, the custody battle hu says she and Jonas saw each other on September 17 – and she asked him for the children’s passports so she could take them back to England, but Jonas refused to turn over the passports of the girls, who were born in the United States, and have dual US and British citizenship.
The court filing says the girls are temporarily living with Turner in a Manhattan hotel.
Jonas said in a statement that he is “seeking shared parenting with the kids so that they are raised by both their mother and father” and that he is “okay with the kids being raised both in the US and the UK”.
“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending,” he added. “When language like ‘abduction’ is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst.”
In a statement published by TMZ, Joe, through his rep allegedly stated that their team was ‘surprised’ by Sophie’s decision to sue him, claiming that the couple had a cordial meeting on Sunday in New York, when the actress came to be with the kids.
He then alleged that less than 24 hours later, Sophie wanted to take the children ‘permanently to the UK’. He further added that if Joe complied with the demand, he would be violating the Florida Court order.
