‘special’ Voters Can Mention ‘divyang’ On Voters’ List | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The state’s election department during a meeting on Monday decided to give options to specially-abled voters in Rajasthan to add the word ‘Divyang’ before their names on the voters’ list, said chief electoral officer (CEO) of Rajasthan Praveen Gupta.
The department also decided that voting through postal ballots would be allowed for specially-abled voters, having disability certificates, during general elections in the state (from the next assembly election, 2023).
“Such voters can add the term ‘Divyang’ before their names on the voters’ list by filling Form-8. Even the existing voters can make these changes on the voters’ list,” an informed source said.
“For casting votes through postal ballots, it is mandatory to have disability certificates. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) voters can opt for postal ballots during general elections. Earlier, voting through postal ballots by PwDs was used during by-elections in Rajasthan. Now, it will be introduced in general elections as well,” the source added.
Hemant Bhai Goyal, vice-president, Divyang Adhikar Mahasangh, who was present in the meeting, said, “I suggested that in order to increase the voting percentage of specially-abled persons during elections, people belonging to PwD category must be nominated to various posts in the panchayati raj institutions as the urban local bodies. This will help in increasing the voting percentage of specially-abled voters during the elections.”
“If a villager is nominated to the post of a panch, he/she will take the initiative in bringing all the PwD voters to the polling booths for casting their votes,” he added.
