State Govt Raises Incentive For Inter-caste Marriage To ₹10 Lakh | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: The state government on Thursday raised the incentive amount for inter-caste marriage to Rs 10 lakh.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has recently announced this in the Budget 2023-24. On Thursday, the department of social justice and empowerment issued instructions to increase the amount of Dr Savita Ben Ambedkar Inter-caste Marriage Scheme by Rs 5 lakh. Earlier, the government used to give an incentive of Rs 5 lakh on inter-caste marriages. The decision has come into force from Thursday under which Rs 10 lakh will be given to the couples who do inter-caste marriage of which Rs 5 lakh will be made as a fixed deposit for eight years and the remaining Rs 5 lakh will be deposited by creating a joint bank account of the bride and groom.
The social justice and empowerment department has launched this scheme in 2006. Earlier, under this scheme, Rs 50,000 were given to the newly married couple. But in April 2013, it was raised to 5 lakh.
Under this scheme, 75% of the amount is borne by the state government and 25% by the central government.
An amount of Rs 33.55 crore has been released by the government in the last financial year and more than Rs 4.5 crore in the current financial year.
As per the conditions of the scheme, either the boy or girl should belong to the Scheduled Caste. Anyone who is not more than 35 years of age, not have been convicted in any criminal case. The combined income of the couple should not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh per annum.
The benefit under the scheme will be payable if the application is received within a period of a year from the date of marriage (first marriage only).
