Statewide Protest: Bjp To Stage Statewide Protest Today Over Frequent Power Cuts: Rathore | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Leader of Opposition Rajendra Rathore on Wednesday said that the state is facing power cuts for five to 10 hours every day, causing inconvenience to people.
“The government’s claims of meeting 100% power needs have been exposed. Gehlot has claimed in the assembly that the state is producing 23,309MW of power which isn’t seen anywhere,” said Rathore in a video statement.
He said BJP will hold a statewide protest against the shortage of power on Thursday. “All our morchas will hold a symbolic dharna by hoisting black flags. BJP’s Yuva Morcha, Kisan Morcha, and Mahila Morcha will take out lantern torch marches on power cuts,” said Rathore.
Quoting the bills of some households, Rathore said that electricity bills have increased by 20-30% on average in the last two months.
“The promise of not increasing the power bills for the entire term also turned out to be a blatant lie. They have increased the bills by six times. They have levied a surcharge of Rs 52 paisa per unit, which has been charged for the past 4.5 years. The announcement of the 100-unit subsidy is not reflected in the bills,” said Rathore.
He said that at present the demand for electricity has reached 16,500MW during peak hours, while the availability of electricity is only 13,000 to 14,000 MW. “The biggest reason is the closure of seven units of the 2740MW capacity of Kota, Suratgarh, Chhabra, and Kalisindh power plants due to a lack of coal and technical maintenance.”
Quoting the 20th Electricity Power Survey report by the ministry of power, Rathore said, “The report mentioned that this year demand for electricity in peak hours will be at an all-time high. The red flag was taken lightly by the government which is a reason that the state is facing a crisis.”
Calling the corruption of astronomical scale in the purchase of coal from abroad, Rathore said, “Congress government purchased coal from Adani Group at a cost of Rs 18,000 per metric tonne and is preparing to purchase from abroad for Rs 15,000 per metric tonne at a time when coal is available in the local market for Rs 4,000 to 6,000 metric tonne. The people of the state need clarification on the differences in the purchase of coal.”
