Super-Speciality Block: Tests Pose Ordeals For Patients At Super-speciality Block Of Sms | Jaipur News

Jaipur: As 50-year-old Bhagwan Sahai Singh lay on a bed in the urology ward of the super-speciality block of SMS Hospital and discussed with his son, Vijay, his impending kidney surgery, the pre-surgery tests yet to be conducted emerged as a big issue.
“For every test, one has to go to the main building of SMS Hospital from here, having to cross the busy Tonk Road, despite having been admitted here. I went there for a pre-anaesthetic check-up (PAC), which is a must before surgery. I also went there for 2D echo, which is not available here,” said Bhagwan, who came from Dausa.
The same ordeal loomed large for Ummed Singh, a patient from Nagaur who was admitted at the super-speciality block two days ago for a surgery. “Even for a basic test like Covid-19, I had to go to the trauma centre of SMS Hospital. I also got my PAC test done there. Crossing the busy road, or having to go through the roundabout, is difficult for a patient like me and takes time. Standing in queues also tires me out,” said Singh.
While the super-speciality block is just across the main building of SMS Hospital, barely 300 metres away, it is the busy Tonk Road that separates them makes traversing this distance on foot a problem for many patients and their attendants. Going through the nearest roundabout stretches the distance to about a kilometre, but it still remains risky, said patients. Then they have to make several rounds of the main building for a number of tests on different dates.
Most of the patients admitted at the super-specialty block are mainly for undergoing surgeries, which require several tests before being conducted. While facilities for some tests are available here, a lot of others are done only at the main hospital building, for which attendants are asked to deposit the samples.
There is neither the facility for an HIV test, needed for pre-surgery assessment and for dialysis, nor a sample collection point available at the super-specialty block.
