Swachhta: Swachhta Marathon In City Today, Over 5k Residents To Take Part | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The JMC Greater administration will organise a 10-km-long Swachhta Marathon on Tuesday with the aim of spreading awareness among city residents and secure 2,500 points in the cleanliness survey. The corporation gets these points directly through residents’ feedback.
The marathon will start at 6am from Mahal Road High-Tension Line crossing at Jagatpura. JMC expects over 5,000 residents of all age groups to participate in it.
JMC Greater mayor Somya Gurjar told the media on Monday that several campaigns had been held in the past two years, but the corporation did not get the expected response from residents. She said Zumba classes would be conducted as a warm-up session before the marathon and that doctors would be present to tackle any emergencies. All participants will be given a health card of Rs 30,000 each by a private hospital co-organising the marathon.
“Despite all measures, the city is not completely clean as public participation is missing. In the past two years we started Nagar Nigam Aapke Dwar campaign, but the response was low as most people did not participate. With such marathons, we are trying to reach out to residents and celebrate cleanliness as a festival,” said Gurjar. The mayor saidthat the marathon is being organised on Valentine’s Day to give the message of “Aao Karen Apne Shahar Se Pyaar”.
“In the Swachha Sarvekshan Survey, 2,500 marks are for public participation. So we need residents’ help to make Jaipur a cleaner city. At the marathon, participants will take a Swachhta pledge. The mobile app through which cleanliness measures of the city can be checked will also be installed on their phones,” said Gurjar.
