JAIPUR: Ritik Thakurani alias Ritik Boxer shot into criminal notoriety after he owned up to the shooting at a hotel on Saturday, but the 20-year-old is hardly a new entrant into the world of crime.
A resident of Malviya Nagar, Ritik is a notorious history-sheeter of the Jawahar Circle police station. His name recently cropped up for organising an attack on a trader in the Hanumangarh district.
Ritik has been involved in eight cases, three in Jaipur, two each in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh, and one in Gohana in Haryana.
Moments after the outburst of gunfire at Days Hotel on Saturday, Ritik posted online a photo of him with a gun and claimed “Sabka number aayega, (everyone’s turn will come),” to send a chilling message that he is fast emerging as a new face of the dreaded Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Rajasthan.
“He has been involved in serious offences, including an attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion and arms act. He is just 20, but he already has eight FIRs against him,” said an official.
As per the crime branch’s records, Ritik met Lawrence Bishnoi about two years ago, around the same time Bishnoi’s other henchman Rohit Godara left India and ensconced himself abroad. “Since Godara settled abroad, Ritik emerged as a new face of Lawrence’s gang. He changes his locations quickly,” he added. Two police teams have been sent to different states and about 70 suspects have been quizzed to find out about Ritik,” he said.
“We don’t think Ritik was one of the shooters, but there it is likely that Bishnoi and Godara arranged weapons whereas Ritik organised local wherewithal by arranging shooters, carrying out a recce and finding a bike,” another official said.
“Godara is facing the heat after Raju Theth’s murder, and now the gang is relying on Ritik for extortion, the lifeblood of the syndicate,” he added.
