Barmer: Bandh In Barmer, Jaisalmer To Defend Accused In Dalit’s Killing | Jaipur News

Jaisalmer: Traders in many towns of Barmer and Jaisalmer districts observed a bandh on Sunday in protest against the Barmer administration agreeing to demands for suspension of the station house officer (SHO) of Girab police station and action against the SC/ST cell’s deputy SP Pushpendra Singh over the killing of Kojaram Meghawal, a Dalit, allegedly by a group of men in Asadi village who assaulted him with iron rods and lathis.
The traders said a mahapadav (sit-in protest) will be organised outside the Barmer district collectorate on Monday to register their protest. Outrage over Kojaram’s killing had led to a public dharna outside the mortuary where his body was kept. It was lifted on the fourth day after the administration agreed to the demand of recommending suspension of the Girab SHO and action against the SC/ST cell’s Dy SP.
A counter mobilisation took place in many towns in Barmer and Jaisalmer where people demanded that the SHO not be suspended and no action be taken against the Dy SP. Markets in Harsani, Ramsar, and Girab towns in Barmer district stayed completely shut on Sunday.
Locals who supported the bandh said that innocent people had been named as accused in the case. Advocate Iswar Singh Balai said that the SHO had been suspended without any reason. In Jaisalmer, too, markets in many towns remained closed.
