Candidates who have switched allegiance and are now contesting as independents are struggling to distance themselves from their former party and symbol in Bhopal. Congress and BJP candidates have a simpler task as they have the backing of their respective parties. The BJP candidate, Alok Sharma, is relying on a split in the Congress voter bank and is highlighting the presence of MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in his campaign. However, independent candidates Nasir Islam and Amir Aqueel, who were previously associated with Congress, are also posing a challenge to the BJP candidate.
