Jaipur: A Congress leader’s wife died of injuries sustained when a part of her garment got stuck in a wheat thresher while she was working in an agricultural field in Dungarpur on Saturday.
Police said that Savita Patidar, 45, was separating wheat from her harvest in the field with the thresher when the cloth with which she had covered her face accidentally got stuck in the thresher’s belt.
She was the wife of Manoj Patidar, who is a Congress leader in the region.
TOI had highlighted how threshers are dangerous and are a cause of mortality and morbidity among farmers.
“All these incidents can be prevented by taking precautions and using proper guard in the thresher. We witness many patients whose hands have been injured badly due to threshers. This is peak harvest time and we are witnessing many such cases. So far, more than 30 such cases have been reported in our hospitals of people who got injured due to thresher machines and all these cases are preventable by using proper thresher machines with guards,” said Dr DS Meena, head of hand surgery and limb reconstruction unit, SMS hospital.
