KOTA: Two students, both preparing for the NEET-UG exam, died by suicide in the space of four hours in the coaching city on Sunday, taking the number of such cases to six this month and 22 this year.
In the afternoon, a 17-year-old boy, hailing from Maharashtra and preparing for the exam for the last three years in the city, allegedly jumped to death from the sixth floor of a coaching institute in Jawahar Nagar area.
Four hours later, another coaching student, this time from Bihar, who has been in Kota for a year, allegedly took his life by hanging in his room in a rented flat, where he was living with his sister and cousin.
In the first case, the teen, identified as Avishkar Shambaji Kasle (17), took the extreme step immediately after finishing a test at 3.15pm. He was a Class 12 student and a resident of Ahmed Nagar in Latur district of Maharashtra.
Though the institute staff rushed him to a hospital, he succumbed on the way, Vigyan Nagar station circle officer (CO) Dharmveer Singh said. The teen lived in a rented facility in Talwandi area with his maternal grandparents. His parents were government teachers in Maharashtra, he said, adding that the student may have taken the step due to low marks he scored in routine tests at the institute.
