Transport Department: Road Accidents Rise By 13%, Deaths By 11% In 1 Yr In State | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: road accidents in the state have increased by 13% from 2021 to 2022, while deaths increased by 11%, shows data from the transport department. In 2021, the state reported 20,951 accidents while in 2022, it increased to 23,614.
Officials said that just five districts reported a dip in road accidents while in two districts there was no change in numbers, rest all districts reported an increase.
Over 10 districts reported more than 20% increase in accidents and deaths each. They said that strict enforcement of existing rules is needed to reduce road accident deaths and numbers in the state.
“There are many rules already in place, but behavioural change is needed among people to follow them, and enforcement must be strict to reduce accidents numbers in the state. Due to good and straight roads, over speeding happens a lot and in such a situation, the driver is not able to control the vehicle leading to fatal accidents. Regular checks on highways can help reduce the numbers,” said a senior official from the transport department.
In terms of injuries, districts like Pratapgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh and Jalore had the maximum increase. The transport department in its meeting for Vision 2030 also found that more emphasis was needed to improve enforcement measures on roads across the state, especially wearing helmets, as maximum accidents were of two-wheeler riders.
To reduce accidents, the department has instructed its officials and stakeholder to upload data and information of accidents occurring in the district on iRAD application with details like whether the accident took place in urban/rural area, police station concerned, national highway or other accident-prone areas. This will help monitor areas where accidents are taking place and plan mitigation measures accordingly.
