Bhopal engineer duped of Rs 65,000 in cyber fraud | Bhopal News

BHOPAL: Online fraudsters siphoned Rs 65000 from a software engineer’s bank account.
ASP (Cyber-crime branch) Ankit Jaiswal said that complainant Ahmed Ali Shah, 37, a resident of Char Imli area, is a software engineer.
Shah in his complaint to police stated that on August 12, a phishing link was sent on his smartphone. He clicked on the link, which was a mirror link to download some app that hacked his smartphone. He received a message from his bank that overdraft account facility was provided on his bank account. Before he could understand anything, some OTPs were sent to his phone randomly, which he did not share with anyone. However, Rs 65000 was siphoned from his bank account in three transactions. Realising that he had been a prey to cyber fraud, he approached the cyber-crime branch and filed a complaint. Acting on his complaint, police have registered a case against unidentified accused on Friday and started investigations.
In another case, Kulwant Kaur, 67, a resident of Paras City Colony in E-3/Arera Colony, filed complaint with police stating that she received a call from an online fraudster, who introduced himself as executive of a telecom company and told her that her SIM card KYC verification were pending. Kaur replied that her SIM card KYC was already verified, but the accused told her that after Covid-19, the SIM cards were being verified again. He told her that she can do the process herself and sent her a link on which, it was written ‘SIM verification Link’. He asked her to make a transaction of Rs 10 through the link. When she clicked on the link, her smartphone was hacked and Rs 99724 were deducted from her account in four transactions.
ASP Jaiswal said that both the cyber-frauds were done through phishing links. Police have registered cases and further investigations were on.
