Phed To Announce Fresh List Of City’s Water Sensitive Areas | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) chemists have charted a tentative list of sensitive areas in the city and will announce the final list on Wednesday following meetings with field engineers of the department. In these locations, problem with contaminated water in perennial.
“We refer to these places as hotspots and we prepare a list once in every five years. This will be the second time we are preparing the list of hotspots across the city. For the next five years, our focus will be more on these spots,” HS Devenda, chief chemist of state PHED, told TOI.
As per rules, the city laboratory of PHED carries out sample test for water regularly at different locations. The roster for this testing procedure is fixed in a way that each locality gets a turn within a gap of every 45 to 60 days.
However, chemists determine sensitive zones or hotspots and fix a different roster for these zones. As per norm, it is mandatory to carry out routine chlorine residual tests at these hotspots once every month.
“The list is being updated every five years. While updating the list, we keep in mind the number of complaints we have received from these localities in the last five years and even the conditions of pipelines laid in these localities. We even take opinions of field engineers,” added Devenda. At present, there were 18 hotspots in the city.
