4 Gibs Lay 2 Eggs Each For 1st Time | Jaipur News

Jaisalmer: In the breeding season, this year, for the first time, 4 female Godawans have laid 2 eggs each, which is a positive sign in conserving the Great Indian Bust (GIB), which is on the verge of extinction.
Around 15 eggs were seen of which 9 eggs were brought to Sudasari Conservation and Breeding Centre at the Desert National Park (DNP).
DNP officers hope to find more eggs. In the last three years, around 31 eggs have been brought to the breeding centre.
DNP deputy conservator of forest Ashish Vyas confirming this said, “It is encouraging news that the population of the GIB is increasing. With a good monsoon, the breeding season of GIB started from March this year. Around 15 GIBs, also known as Godawans, have laid eggs in the Sudasari area of the DNP and Ramdevra closure area of the district. Four GIBs have laid 2 eggs each. Earlier in 2020, a female GIB had laid two eggs.”
He said that if conditions are not favourable then female GIBs do not breed. They only mate when they get conducive weather. This time conditions were favourable and hence results have been encouraging.
