Rajasthan University students continue protests over poor security & facilities in colleges | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Students of the University of Rajasthan, who have been protesting over lack of security and infrastructure in colleges, have now decided to conduct a mock prayer ceremony at the main gate of the institute on Thursday. This comes after students protested using the water burial method on Tuesday.
These students had been protesting for two weeks over 15 demands like increasing security outside colleges of the university like Maharani College, starting an Indira kitchen on the university campus, starting physical education departments in constituent colleges, WiFi facility, central library for students, among other demands.
Rinku Meena, a student leader said, “We had been protesting since two weeks at the main gate of the university, but none of the officials listened to us. On Tuesday, we attempted a water burial, after which the university administration agreed to some of our demands. On Thursday, we will hold a hawan ceremony at university gate praying for good sense for officials, as students’ welfare is not being given importance.”
Students have also demanded that a regulatory body be formed in the university for quality checks on food being prepared in the hostels, installing sanitary pads vending machines in the campus, issuing a special budget for repairing old and multi-storey buildings, starting the facility of e-rickshaws inside the university campus among other demands.
Meanwhile, a two-day inter college youth festival will be held at the University of Rajasthan on February 16-17 at the drama open theatre, said officials on Wednesday.
Naresh Malik, dean of student welfare at the university, said 38 activities will be organised over two days where 350 students from 30 colleges will participate.
The programme will be inaugurated by vice-chancellor Prof. Rajeev Jain and syndicate members Gopal Meena, Amin Kagzi, Prof. Sohanlal Sharma.
