Jaisalmer: The 92nd and 87th battalions of the BSF deployed at the international border adjoining Jaisalmer celebrated their 56th Raising Day on Saturday.
Remarkably, both the battalions played an important role in the 1971 war.
The celebrations included cultural programmes and grand feast. The event culminated with a procession.
DIG Aseem Vyas congratulated jawans and officers and said that they have the passion to safegaurd the country in tough and challenging situations. 92nd Battalion commandant Sanjay Chauhan recounted the history of the battalion. He said that the battalion took part in the 1971 war. Besides, it also set up a training centre at Bagafa for Mukti Vahini warriors where many leaders of Bangladesh took training. In the same way, the 87th battalion also observed its 56th raising day. tnn
