Two Killed As Heavy Downpour Lashes State | Jaipur News

Jaipur/Ajmer/Jodhpur: Heavy rainfall continued at many places in the state for the fifth consecutive day on Monday. Many places in Jaipur, Sikar, Ajmer, Bhilwara and Sawai Madhopur witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall that affected normal life.
Two persons including a 7-year-old boy lost their lives in rain related mishaps in Ajmer and Jaipur, respectively. In Ajmer, a section officer of Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) identified as Dilip Singh drowned in a rain-fed nullah late on Sunday evening amidst heavy rainfall. “His body was recovered by a rescue team on Monday afternoon near petrol pump on Nasirabad Road,” said a police officer.
In a similar incident in Jaipur a seven-year-old boy who went to pick up his slippers in the overflowing water drowned near Sriniwas Nagar under Murlipura locality. His body was found 900 meters away from where he drowned.
Meanwhile, Mount Abu (Sirohi) received a rainfall of 231mm on Monday. Heavy rainfall was witnessed in Ajmer where people visited the overflowing Foy Sagar. According to the officials the last time it overflowed was in 1975. The rain water flooded the the orthopaedic wards of JLN Hospital, Ajmer. Tracks around Ajmer railway station were also inundated. Low-lying areas like Gurjar Dharti, Dholabhata, Nagara, Bhajan Ganj, Jhons Ganj and nearby places witnessed heavy waterlogging in the morning. A dozen trains connecting Ajmer to different places and connecting Jodhpur to Jaisalmer were cancelled.
Similarly, Beawar, Kekri and Nasirabad witnessed heavy downpour. As per irrigation department, almost all 27 lakes and dams in the Ajmer district are overflowing.
Flood-like situation was witnessed in Sirohi district. The district administration has issued advisory and set up a control room to deal with any untoward situation. Due to erosion in Jhob nullah, traffic on Sirohi-Pindwara road was diverted. Similarly, the road connecting Sirohi with Jalore via Ramseen was also closed. Schools in Jalore and Sirohi districts are closed on Tuesday.
Similarly, moderate to heavy showers were witnessed in Jaipur on Monday morning. Commuters had a tough time reaching office and shops in the morning hours. Areas like Queens Road, Kings Road, Ghoda Nikas Road, Tonk Road, Sodala, Jai Singh Highway, Kalwar Road and others were inundated for hours. Two-wheelers were the worst-hit.
Jaipur received highest rainfall of the season so far where 114mm was recorded. The situation became so sensitive in the morning that civic volunteers were pressed into action and district collector Prakash Rajpurohit visited the Walled City area.
