Vasundhara Raje, 2 other BJP leaders helped to prevent topple bid by rebels: Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday “acknowledged” the support of former CM Vasundhara Raje and two other BJP functionaries and claimed they had helped save his government in 2020 from rebel Congress MLAs who he alleged took money from Union home minister Amit Shah for the failed topple bid.
Speaking at an event in Dholpur, Gehlot named Raje, former assembly speaker Kailash Meghwal and BJP MLA Shobharani Kushwah as the “saviours”. Gehlot claimed that Raje and the others had spoken against such coups and said “overthrowing elected governments was against Rajasthan’s traditions”.

Coming down heavily on Gehlot’s claims, Raje called it a conspiracy against her and accused the CM of being the mastermind of horse trading. She alleged that Gehlot had done this in 2008 and 2018 when his government was in a minority and “arranged” MLAs through his “transactions” to form the government. Gehlot, she added, has insulted her “like no one else in Rajasthan”.
Gehlot asks rebel Congress MLAs to return BJP’s money
Saying that taking and giving bribes were both crimes, she asked Gehlot to file FIRs against Congress MLAs who had taken money. Raje alleged that Gehlot was fabricating stories to avoid defeat in the elections.
Gehlot’s claims have come a few weeks after his Congress rival and former deputy CM Sachin Pilot accused him of inaction on alleged corruption during Raje’s tenure as CM.
Gehlot also urged the rebel Congress MLAs “to return the money they had taken from BJP so that they could carry out their duties without any pressure”. The CM went on to add that if the Congress MLAs had spent the money, he would “give them the spent portion or get it from the AICC”, but insisted that “they should return the entire amount to Shah to release themselves from his grip”.
“He (Shah) is also the Union home minister, he will threaten and intimidate, like he does in Gujarat…in Maharashtra, he divided Shiv Sena. Shah plays a dangerous game,” Gehlot said and also accused Union ministers Gajendra Shekhawat and Dharmendra Pradhan of conspiring against his government.
