Vegetable And Fruit Prices Set Kitchen Budget On Fire | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Temperature and vegetable prices are both soaring in the city. As the city faces harsh weather, lemons, onions, cucumbers and other vegetables are shooting through the roof making it extremely difficult for many households to bear.
According to Muhana Mandi administration, prices of vegetables are usually high in this time of the year.

Lemon is currently being sold for Rs 180-200kg, cucumber for Rs 25, gourd for Rs 15 per kg in the wholesale market. Rates of these vegetables soars further when they are sold in the markets.
Muhana Mandi president, Rajendra Nagar said prices usually soar this time. “Tinda, gourd and tomatoes are sown this time of the year. Prices are generally high this time of the year and will remain so for a while. Even watermelons and muskmelons are selling at high rates in the wholesale market.”
“I purchased potatoes, tomatoes and onions and shelled out Rs 150. This is not the time to purchase so many vegetables,” said Pinky Taneja, a resident of Jawahar Nagar.
Anita Ramchandani, who works as a cook in Raja Park, said although she cooks vegetables in people’s homes, she is avoiding purchasing vegetables for her own house.
“I have switched to lentils and rice. We are making vegetables four times a week mostly with potatoes and onions because they are affordable,” said Anita.
