Vidarbha: Karnewar & Mokhade Lead Vidarbha To Victory | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Playing only his second match, Aman Mokhade impressed with his brilliant batting to help Vidarbha canter to an eight-wicket victory against Manipur in the Vijay Hazare Group B match at the Jaipuriya Vidyalaya ground here on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Mokhade slammed a stroke-filled 49 but missed his half-century by a whisker. The young talented right-hander smashed nine superbly timed boundaries during his 30-ball innings.Trying to hammer another boundary off Manipur medium-pacer Bikash Singh, Mokhade could not clear the mid-off fielder as the ball did not bounce to his expectations and hit at the toe end of his bat.
Mokhade, who earned his place in the senior side after scoring more than 350 runs in the U-23 format earlier in the season, was disappointed for not completing his fifty but he certainly justified his inclusion in the team with a flawless exhibition of batting. Chasing a modest target of 114, Vidarbha made light work of Manipur’s attack to romp home in just 16.5 overs despite losing their captain Atharva Taide (9: 9b, 2×4) early.
Opener Sanjay Ramaswamy and Mokhade dominated their opponent’s attack to garner runs quite easily on a sporting track. Sanjay remained unbeaten on 30 off 45 balls. After Mokhade’s departure, Karun Nair raced to 18 not out off just 17 balls. The former Karnataka player cracked a couple of fours and a six.
It was an almost perfect day for Vidarbha. Skipper Taide won the toss and opted to field. Vidarbha bowlers put up a good show to bundle out minnows Manipur for 113 in 45.4 overs.
Brief score: Manipur 113 all out in 45.4 overs (Johnson Singh 51 not out; Akshay Karnewar 4-18, Rajneesh Gurbani 3-36) lost to Vidarbha 115/2 in 16.5 overs (Aman Mokhade 49, Sanjay Ramaswamy 30 not out; Bikash Singh 1-22) by 8 wkts.

BCCI to discuss with Rohit his white-ball plans
BCCI and selectors will discuss Rohit Sharma’s future in white-ball cricket and grooming a captain for the future. Rohit has already communicated that he is fine with not being considered for T20Is. The selectors have been investing in young blood for T20Is and are reluctant to deviate from that strategy due to the upcoming T20 World Cup. India will play three ODIs in South Africa next month before a two-Test series, which will serve as a chance for Test players to acclimate to the conditions. The selection committee is focused on creating a pool of players and may not retain Ajinkya Rahane for the Test series in South Africa. Hardik Pandya is likely to be out of international cricket until the end of January, hampering India’s preparations for the T20 World Cup.
