Walled City Traders Say Jmc-h Anti-encroachment Drive Is Futile | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Even though Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage (JMC-H) has been conducting a drive to remove temporary encroachments in Walled City, but a traders’ body has said that no effect of the action is visible on the streets.
On Thursday, the vigilance wing of JMC-H removed temporary encroachments from various markets of Walled City and deployed teams from Badi Chaupar to Ramganj Bazar, Ramganj Bazar to Galta Gate, Galta Gate to Delhi Bypass, Ramgarh Mode to Zorawar Singh Gate, and from Badi Chaupar to Johri Bazar. Officials said four truckloads of goods were seized and a carrying charge of Rs 29,000 was collected from 11 traders on the spot itself during the drive.
Last month, temporary encroachments were removed from the front of Hawa Mahal, Subhash Chowk near Jorwar Singh Gate, and Jal Mahal.
Three truckloads of goods were seized during that drive, but traders said that unauthorized vendors continue to have shops on the streets as they leave the streets only when the JMC-H teams visit and are back immediately afterwards.
“Officials of the civic body are not interested in clearing out the temporary encroachments from either the verandas or the markets. Within ten minutes after the vigilance team leaves, the vendors set up their shops again. The authorities also know this,” said Jaipur Vyapaar Mahasangh (JVM) president Subhash Goyal.
In the past six months, JVM has held three meetings with JMC-H officials, demanding a permanent solution to the issue, but no concrete action has been taken, said Goyal.“These roads are a right of the public who visit Walled City. If the encroachments are cleared properly with strict action, it will be easy for both pedestrians and vehicle users as parking spaces will be available. At present, as the encroachments stretch up to the roads, people park their vehicles there, and the space gets reduced even further, causing traffic jams,” added Goyal.
