Smelly blankets, bed-bug infested mattresses: For these homeless people, life inside shelters is as terrible as outside them
Kamla, an elderly woman living in an unsanitary shelter home, describes the difficult conditions faced by the homeless during winter. The smell of rotting blankets, torn mattresses infested with bed bugs, and cold water for bathing make life unbearable. Caretakers admit that pleas for maintenance have been ignored, resulting in a lack of blankets and functional washrooms. Similar conditions are found in other shelter homes, with additional issues such as power disconnection. Despite promises, the winter action plan to provide blankets and tents has not been implemented.
