The citadel of Khalistan movement
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been accused of deflecting attention from his government’s ties to radicals and its indulgence of violence-espousing Khalistanis by making baseless allegations against India. The Khalistan movement, which seeks a separate Sikh homeland, has minimal support among Sikhs in India, according to a poll by the Pew Research Centre. However, the movement is being kept alive overseas through the funding and support of Pakistan, as well as the inaction of countries such as Canada, the UK, the US, Australia, and New Zealand. India should pressure these countries to rein in Khalistani militancy.
