Jaipur: The Jaipur police have sent teams across several cities after a 19-year-old girl alleged that she was gang-raped by two drivers in a moving bus. ACP (Kanota) Phool Chandra Meena said that the incident took place on the intervening night of December 9-10 under the Kanota police station area.
“We have arrested one of the accused identified as Arif Khan (22), the search is on for the second suspect Lalit Kumar (24).We have sent different teams to arrest the absconding accused,” Meena said, adding the FIR was filed against the accused for gang-rape.
He mentioned that the girl had travelled from a city in Uttar Pradesh to Jaipur to meet her uncle, who had assured her of a job in a stitching company.
“The girl boarded the bus from Kanpur. She was travelling in the packed bus when she was asked by the accused to sleep on a berth inside the driver’s cabin which they had locked from the inside,” Meena said.
The police said that the accused increased the volume of the music inside the cabin so that other passengers could not hear her screams. “When the bus was passing through the Kanota police station area, some passengers raised an alarm. The bus was stopped near a petrol pump. There was a brief scuffle after which a police vehicle came to the scene and took the accused to the police station,” Meena said, adding that the second driver fled from the scene.
The police said that different teams have been constituted to track down Kumar.
