Jaipur to have 72-hour water supply cut from Thursday | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Water supply in the city is likely to get affected for around 72 hours from February 23 as Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) would stop the Bisalpur pipeline connection to facilitate the Bisalpur II project.
The closure of the Bisalpur pipeline water supply was earlier proposed for February 28, and the proposal was sent to the secretariat and even to the chief minister’s office.
PHED was instructed to carry out the work as soon as possible instead of wating till late February or early March.
As per the latest plans, water supply would be stopped from the late evening of February 23, and normal water supply would be restored on the morning of February 26, said officials.
PHED has devised ways to ensure residents across Jaipur do not face any major water crisis during the water supply closure period.
“As per the plan following instructions from additional chief secretary Subodh Agarwal, all storage facilities of PHED in the city would start storing water from a few days in advance. This additional water would help us supply tanker water on the affected days to tail-end areas where there is no pipeline water connections,” said a senior PHED official.
PHED engineers are trying to minimize the affected supply time for households with pipeline water connections.
Officials said they would stop supplying water from Surajpura Filter Plant late on February 23 evening, but the closure would start only after filling up the tanks at Balwala in Sanganer to ensure regular morning water supply on February 24.
However, there will be no supply on February 24 evening and February 25 morning.
PHED engineers said they are trying to provide partial water supply on February 25 evening. Water supply would be normal from February 26 morning, they said.
“Pipeline water supply in the city will effectively remain closed only for two times, maximum for three times. PHED would try to supply tanker water to households. But it is impossible for the department to cater to every household in the city. Residents should display reponsibile citizenship and save water in order not to have a panic situation during the 72 hours when supply is affected,” said an engineer.
