Jaipur: The city police on Tuesday rescued an inter-caste couple from kidnappers who intended to kill them. ACP (Chomu) Rajendra Singh Nirwan said that police arrested all the five kidnappers before they could kill Pooja and her husband Prithvi Raj.
“Pooja and Prithvi were rescued from two different locations. We launched a search after Prithvi’s father Ramji Lal Bawariya filed a missing report,” the ACP said, adding that the Harmada police station arrested the accused.
He said that Pooja’s brother Kajod Mal Yogi, 26, led the kidnappers, who were idenitfied as Sunder Meena, Kundan Meena, Rakesh Kumar Meena, and Puran Mal Saini. “Police prevented an honour killing. The accused were planning to kill Prithvi,” Nirwan said.
As per police, Pooja and Pritvhi married in Uttar Pradesh on March 10. Pooja’s family opposed the marriage and filed a missing report, but she came home to Jaipur and made a statement before the authorties that she wanted to live with her husband.
The couple returned to Jaipur on March 15 and moved into a rented room. On March 20, they were kidnapped from there. “It was a very senstive case, so we consitued task forces. Two teams fanned out in different directions, including to Dausa, Kanota and Jawamramgarh,” said an officer.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that murder was the main motive behind the couple’s abduction,” the officer said. TNN
