Covid claims 5 lives in Rajasthan in two days | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: With five people dying of Covid in the state in the past two days, the toll this month went up to 18. Two of the five deaths took place on Wednesday-one in Jaipur and the other in Jhalawar-and the total toll reached 9,598. In the past 24 hours, 502 new Covid-19 infections were reported in the state, raising the overall tally to 13,02,616.
The number of samples collected in the past 24 hours increased significantly. While 3,811 samples were collected on Tuesday, the number was 19,223 on Wednesday.
The numbers of active cases reduced for the third day in a row. In the mild ongoing spurt in active cases, August 14 had seen the peak as the state had 5,036 active cases that day. In the next three days, the numbers kept falling as more infected people recovered. On August 15, it was 4,586; on August 16, it was 4,131; and on Aug 17, it was 3,944.
In the past 24 hours, Alwar reported 107 new cases, the highest in the state, followed by Jaipur (96), Bharatpur (72), Udaipur (34), Jodhpur (28), Bhilwara (28), Dausa (26), Chittorgarh (25), Pratapgarh (20) and Nagaur (18). No other district reported more than ten new Covid-19 cases. In the past 24 hours, 687 persons were recovered from the virus.
Jaipur currently has 1,300 active cases, the highest in the state, followed by Alwar (561), Udaipur (421), Bharatpur (334), Chittorgarh (170).
