Jewel Thief: Thief Who Fled To Mum With ₹27 Lakh Diamonds And Emeralds Arrested | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The Jaipur police arrested a jewel thief on Tuesday who had stolen diamonds and emeralds worth nearly Rs 27 lakh from a Haridwar-based merchant and fled to Mumbai.
Additional commissioner of police (Crime) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi stated that the police arrested the accused, identified as Mohammad Anis, a resident of Ramgang in Jaipur.
DCP (North) Rashi Dogra Dudi mentioned that on September 19, the victim had filed an FIR at the Jalupura police station, stating that he had come to Jaipur from Haridwar to meet with an individual named Ashish for a deal.
In his complaint to the police, the victim alleged that he had come to Jaipur with a square cushion-cut diamond and two square-cut green emeralds.
The victim arrived in Jaipur and met Ashish, who then took him to a prominent jewellery store on MI Road for inspection. After deceiving the victim, the accused managed to flee from the jewellery shop with the jewellery.
The police conducted an examination of electronic evidence and determined that Ashish was, in fact, Anis, a criminal classified as a history-sheeter of the Ramganj police station.
Subsequently, the police delved into technical details, including Call Detail Records (CDR), and discovered that the accused had fled to Mumbai, where he purchased a new SIM card.
Based on location data, the police team reached Mumbai, apprehended him there, and subsequently brought him back to Jaipur.
The police learned that after stealing the diamonds and emeralds, the accused had flown to Mumbai, where he had arranged a deal through an agent to sell these valuable items.
However, he was arrested before he could complete the deal. The accused has more than half a dozen criminal cases, including assault, robbery, and theft, registered against him at the Ramganj police station. The police are currently interrogating the accused and verifying his potential involvement in other incidents.
Dudi said that the police have also recovered the stolen items from the accused.
