Sushant Singh Rajput’s family appeals against the release of the films and books on actor’s death – Exclusive | Hindi Movie News

Back in July, the Delhi High Court had refused to stay the release of a movie allegedly based on the life of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Sushant’s father had sought interlocutory injunction in an appeal against the film’s makers, but the court rejected the same stating that rights of privacy, publicity, and personality vested in Sushant, ceased to exist upon the actor’s death.

Sushant’s father, Krishna Kishore Singh has now filed a fresh appeal in the Delhi High Court. In his plea, he listed four movies and two books which have been allegedly inspired from Sushant’s life and untimely demise. Krishna Kishore Singh, has filed this plea in an effort to protect the reputation, privacy, and rights of Sushant Singh Rajput. He stated that the books, series and movies were being made with the consent of the late actor’s legal heir.
Speaking to ETimes, Sushant’s father’s lawyer said, “Right to privacy of the father includes family life. And the parties cannot make movies on the private life of his son’s death. Besides a nine judge bench in Puttuswamy states that right to privacy also includes dignified death. And by making a mockery of his death, privacy rights of Sushant Singh Rajput are being infringed. Puttaswamy also says it’s the court’s job to include as many fundamental rights as possible. And if there is a foreign law convention which is not in conflict with Indian law the same should be adopted. The personality rights which are part of Article 21 are protected in all common law countries.”

On June 14, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra apartment.
