Navratri: Over 200 Suffer Food Poisoning From Item Eaten In Navratri Fast | Jaipur News
JAISALMER: More than 200 cases of food poisoning were reported from different places in Jaisalmer on Wednesday, the first day of the Navratri fast, from consumption of sortex bhagar (saukh), a locally manufactured food item that is widely consumed on days of fasting.
District collector Tina Dabi has appealed to people of the district to not consume sortex bhagar of Manpasand brand till its quality is tested by the health department. People suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea, and other symptoms of food posioning were brought to Jawahar hospital in Jaisalmer in large numbers.
Senior officers of both the district administration and the health department reached the hospital to inquire into the cause. It was found that the patients had purchased sortex bhagar of the Manpasand brand at many places and after consuming it they suffered from food poisoning.
According to information, the food poisoning patients came to hospital from Jaisalmer city and adjoining villages of Masurdi, Kumar Kotha, Kanid, Gogadev, among others.
Dabi said that the food poisoning happened after consumption of a certain brand of sortex bhagar. The food inspector has been directed to investigate, she said. CMHO Dr B L Bunkar reached the hospital and later told reporters that all patients were out of danger.
