Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Vikrant’s Massey‘s ’12th Fail’ based on Anurag Pathak’s novel by the same name has caught the audience’s attention and has made massive gains over the last two weeks despite taking a slow beginning on day 1 where it just opened to Rs 1.11 crore. The film went on to make Rs 13.04 crore in week one. It was expected to slow down in week 2 but it maintained a very steady pace and ended up making more in week 2 as compared to week 1.
The film on Friday (Rs 1.76 crore), Saturday (Rs 3.42 crore) and Sunday (Rs 3.33 crore), taking its second weekend total to Rs 8.51 crore and over the next 4 days it collected Rs 1.32 crore, Rs 1.41 crore, Rs 1.46 crore on Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday. And on Thursday as per early estimates, it added another Rs 1.45 crore, taking its second week total to Rs14.15 crore into its kitty, The total collection of the film now stands at Rs 27.19 crore.
For those unfamiliar, the narrative of the film centers on the tenacious lead, Manoj (portrayed by Massey), facing setbacks in his 12th-grade board exams but choosing resilience over despair. He initiates a new academic pursuit, aiming for success in the challenging UPSC examination.
Speaking about his ambitious project, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra told ETimes, “I started this film when I was 66 years old. I am 71 now. Just imagine. Which producer or filmmaker in his right mind would say, I want to spend 4.5 years of my life making 12th Fail with Vikrant Massey? Who would not want to make a Munnabhai 3 or a 3 Idiots sequel? This is a very important film in today’s times. Never in my life have I told people to go watch my film. It’s not because of money. I have not sold it to any OTT platform yet. It’s just me and my film. It’s my money so I am not answerable to anyone. I am telling you that I am living my life in the cinema. Cinema and my life are the same, there’s no contradiction.”
