JAIPUR: Almost 12 days after an elderly French woman died inside a guest house in the city, the association of tourist guides and operators on Tuesday organised her last rites in Jaipur, when none of her relatives came to claim her body.
Michele (78) was suspected to have died due to natural causes and authorities waited for someone from her family to claim her body.
However, as no one responded, the association of tourist guides and operators requested the French embassy if they could carry out her last rites in Jaipur.
“The embassy informed the SMS police station to grant us permission to organise Michele’s cremation. Accordingly, her last rites were held at Adarsh Nagar cremation ground,” Singh said.
He said that the deceased used to work as a tour leader for French tourists in Jaipur.
“She was friends with a lot of guides and tour operators in the city, therefore, a lot of members of the Rajasthan Association of Tour Operators (RATO) were also present to attend her last rites,” he said.
