Nahargarh: 79 Units Near Nahargarh Face Fine, Closure Over Green Norm Violation | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Seventy-nine industrial units, operational on the land adjoining Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary without obtaining environmental clearance have been issued notices for immediate closure.
Following the directions of the National Green Tribunal(NGT), notices from the Rajasthan Pollution Control Board (RPCB) were issued to these units located in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI) and RIICO Rajasthan land.A penalty of Rs 7.88 crore has also been imposed by the board on 87 industrial units (factories), including these 79.
Vaibhav Pancholy, an advocate, said, “Inside the Nahargarh Wildlife Sanctuary, RIICO developed factories without environmental clearance, violating the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and the Pollution Protection Act. The NGT’s penalty and direction to close these factories will be a milestone in protecting the sanctuary and the environment.”
A petition was filed in the NGT in 2022 regarding the commencement of industrial units without permission from the Pollution Control Board. After hearing this petition, the NGT formed a Joint Action Committee to prepare a report on it.
Officials from the forest department and pollution control board were included in this committee. After conducting its investigation, the committee found that all the industrial units operating here were running without the board’s permission.
Dirty wastewater from many of these units is being released through a drain, causing significant harm to the environment.
In view of this, the committee, after a recent meeting, has issued notices to 87 units and imposed a penalty of Rs 1.34 crore on them for the damage caused to the environment. At the same time, a notice of a penalty of Rs 6.54 crore has also been issued to RIICO Limited in this case.
An official said, “The committee report was presented in NGT Bhopal on Wednesday. After submitting the report, the court has given the date of December 13 for the next hearing. Although today, RIICO had submitted a demand in the court to review the penalty order, the court refused and said to hear the matter on December 13.”
