5% quota: Gujjars threaten agitation against Modi govt | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The Bainsla-led faction of Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti on Friday threatened to launch an agitation against the Centre if the 5% MBC (most backward class) reservation is not included in the 9th schedule of the Constitution or if it is stayed by the apex court. Citing that MBC community has got majority in 16 Lok Sabha seats and 72 assembly seats in Rajasthan, it also said that the move will have an impact on the next Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the state
“I have sent letters to 16 MPs of Rajasthan out of 25. When we have voted them to power, it is their responsibility to ensure including 5% MBC reservation in the 9th schedule of the Constitution. The state government has already sent the letter twice to the Centre. But, the Central government has not done it in the past two years. The community feels that the intentions are not as good as they seem. We supported them in the Lok Sabha elections,” said Vijay Bainsla, leader of Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti and son of Kirori Singh Bainsla.
“Not only in 16 Lok Sabha seats, the MBC community has a strong majority in 72 assembly seats out of 200 in Rajasthan. Hence, the Centre needs to take care of the people. If MBC quota is not included in the 9th schedule, it will be open to judicial purview and with the stay on Maratha reservation looming large over our heads, the court can stay it as well,” he added.
“If the court stays it, there will be a problem. The Gujjars are very strong in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi and Haryana. So, it will have an impact on Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections in the state. There will also be an impact on the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections,” said Bainsla.
