JMC-H mayor suspended again, panel to probe charges

JAIPUR: The state government on Friday suspended Jaipur Municipal Corporation Heritage (JMC-H) mayor Munesh Gurjar once again. Gurjar was first suspended by the state government on August 5, day after her husband was caught by ACB taking bribe of Rs 2 lakh for issuing a land deed to a person.
The order by the local self-government department states that after an investigation found Gurjar’s role in the bribery case, a notice was issued to her seeking her response on August 17, 2023. It further mentions that after her response was not found satisfactory, the issue was forwarded to the law department for judicial investigation.
“Such a conduct and behaviour by Munesh Gurjar is a misuse of the post of mayor of the municipal corporation…. As judicial investigation is underway in the matter, if Munesh Gurjar is still at the post of the mayor then there are chances of the investigation getting influenced…due to this the state government is suspending Munesh Gurjar from the post of mayor and councillor Ward no. 43 with immediate effect,” states the order.
Last month, around 37 Congress councillors at JMC Heritage backed by cabinet minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas had submitted a memorandum to the state government demanding Gurjar to be suspended.
