Rabies: Bjp To Negotiate With 19 Rebels | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The BJP has zeroed in on 19 rebels who have entered the electoral arena as independents, including former cabinet minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, sitting Chittorgarh MLA Chandrabhan Singh Aakya, Yoonus Khan, and Ravindra Bhati, to name a few, to convince them to withdraw their nominations before the last date of November 9. The party has assessed that these 19 rebels can eat into the votes of its candidates.
“Party leaders are in contact with Shekhawat. They have held a series of talks over the phone to convince him to drop his candidature for the Jhotwara seat. A senior leader is likely to hold a meeting with him on Wednesday to take the talks ahead,” said a party leader, requesting anonymity.
In Chittorgarh, though, rebel MLA Aakya does not seem amenable to any compromise. The BJP has made several efforts to persuade him to follow the party line but has failed to move him an inch. “His entry has made the contest triangular in Chittorgarh, with him having an edge over our candidate Narpat Singh Rajvi. The victory of Rajvi can only be ensured when Aakya recalls his candidature,” said the party leader.
The BJP’s state disciplinary committee has warned rebel candidates that if they do not withdraw their nomination, they will be suspended.

BJP, Cong fail to persuade several heavyweight rebels
The withdrawal of nominations in Indore and Ujjain divisions did not yield desired results for both the BJP and Congress. While some rebels were brought back to their respective parties, heavyweight leaders in various constituencies decided to contest as rebels. In Indore, senior Congress leader Antar Singh Darbar resigned from the party and will now compete against Congress and BJP candidates. In other constituencies, rebels refused to withdraw their nominations, leading to triangular contests. Similar situations were observed in Ujjain and other districts.
Party symbols more familiar with voters, say rebels
Candidates who have switched allegiance to contest as independents are finding it difficult to disassociate themselves from their former party and symbol. In Bhopal North, BJP candidate Alok Sharma is relying on a split in the Congress voter bank and the support of MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Meanwhile, Congress rebels Nasir Islam and Amir Aqueel are also contesting without the party symbol. This has posed a challenge for the BJP candidate, who is now facing competition from three candidates associated with the Congress.
Telangana: BJP hit by desertion storm, fails to retain party leaders
The Telangana BJP is facing a challenge in retaining leaders, with several senior members leaving the party. Tollywood actress and senior leader Vijayashanti’s recent cryptic posts have added to the party’s worries. Observers suggest that while the Congress and BJP have different cultures, local leaders should make efforts to retain members. The party is also grappling with the issue of “newcomers vs old-timers.” The departure of leaders like Vijayashanti, Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, and G Vivek to the Congress has further weakened the BJP in Telangana.
