Govt Shelves Sanitation Workers’ Hiring Plan, But Stir To Continue | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The local self government department on Wednesday evening issued an order putting on hold the recruitment of 13,184 sanitation staff, as sanitation workers continued their strike for the second day. The sanitation staff from Valmiki community had been opposing this recruitment process, which was being done following the reservation system.
After the order was issued, group of sanitation workers on strike said that they will continue their strike till new orders are issued based on their demands.
Nand Kishore Dandoriya, president of Sanyukt Valmiki Evam Safai Shramik Sangh said, “We have seen that an order has been issued putting on hold the recruitment of over 13,000 sanitation staff, but we are not calling off our strike till the government issues recruitment orders based on our demand of giving preference to sanitation workers from Valmiki community.”
The Sanyukt Valmiki Evam Safai Shramik Sangh had earlier said that they will discuss their demands with the chief minister or some higher authority as prior talks with department officials were not “fruitful”. On Wednesday, sanitation workers took out two rallies, one from the municipal corporation’s zone office at Malviya Nagar till JMC-Greater headquarters, and the second from Hasanpura till JMC-Heritage mayor’s residence.
Sanitation staff from other communities, who are not participating in the strike, said on Wednesday that if 100% reservation is given to a single community then it will continue to put new demands before the government.
Rakesh Meena, sanitation workers’ leader, said, “If complete reservation is given, then that community will keep making new demands and the government being helpless will have to accept those demands.”
