JODHPUR: Barely a day after a RIICO clerk was caught accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 in Sirohi district for issuing lease deeds of two industrial plots, a superintending engineer (SE) of discom and a contractor in neighbouring district of Jalore were caught by ACB in yet another bribery case on Tuesday.
SE Chatar Singh Meena had demanded the bribe of Rs 30,000 to issue a high power connection to an industrial unit and executed the deal through middleman and contractor Kantilal Mali.
“We arrested Mali red-handed while accepting the bribe, while SE Meena was arrested from his residence,” said an ACB official.
According to him, Amraram had approached the ACB with a complaint that he owned an interlocking cement bricks manufacturing unit in Dharla Paoti village in Jalore district.
“He stated that he had applied for a 15 HP connection in his unit. SE Meena had been demanding a bribe of Rs 30,000 from him to issue the load extension order for his unit,” said the official.
For this deal, Meena roped in Mali as a middleman and asked the complainant to hand over the money to him.
ACB verified the complaint. During verification, Amraram was asked by Mali to come to the court premises with the money.
“On Tuesday, Amraram went to the court with Rs 30,000 and handed over the money to Mali. ACB sleuths lying in wait there caught him and recovered the money,” the official said.
The ACB team then took Mali to Meena’s residence but he shut the door of his house seeing the team. ACB has arrested both of them and initiated an investigation into the matter. A search has also been initiated at the office and residence of Meena.
