Polls Thrice: Man Who Fought Polls Thrice Held Under Arms Act | Jaipur News

Jaipur: In an intriguing twist, a 45-year-old politician from a lesser-known political outfit, who had contested three times from Alwar (Rural) assembly seat, has been arrested by the crime branch in connection with an arms case.
Additional commissioner of police (crime) Kailash Chandra Bishnoi stated that the police arrested the accused, identified as Sawai Nath, a resident of Kanota in Jaipur. The police also seized an illegal desi katta (country-made pistol), along with two live cartridges.
The police investigation has revealed that the accused had contested in 2007, 2013, and 2018 Assembly elections from Alwar (Rural) constituency. “He was also arrested in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case in which he was jailed where he spent three months and recently walked out on bail,” said an official requesting anonymity. “He had been contesting polls from Alwar district but never succeeded. We found recently that he was in possession of illegal firearms and arrested him with the weapons,” the official added.

Arms Act cases down 16%, recovery of weapons up
The number of cases registered under the Arms Act in Delhi has decreased by 16.7% in the first six months of this year compared to the same period in 2022. However, there was an 11.6% increase in the recovery of firearms. The decline in the use of firearms is attributed to heightened security in the city, as well as a crackdown on illegal arms supplies. Traffickers are using social media applications to communicate, making it difficult for the police to track them down. Gangsters prefer foreign-made pistols, while local criminals use weapons made in different states.
