“We will continue our strike till our demands are met officially. At present, government officials are only giving assurances and talks are on, but no written order has been issued. We will try to meet the chief minister on Thursday and a meeting will be conducted at JMC-Heritage after which a final call will be taken on whether to call off the strike,” said Dinesh Beniwal, member of the association.
The union is demanding appointment of 4,500 workers, giving jobs to dependents in case of medical issues, giving complete reservation to Valmiki Samaj for the recruitment of cleaning staff.
Meanwhile, sanitation staff who are not from Valmiki community staged a separate protest at JMC-Greater and gave a memorandum to the commissioner of JMC and director of local self-government department.
Rakesh Meena, union leader who led the protest at JMC-Greater said, “We will not boycott any kind of work, we will work together with the administration, and will keep Jaipur city clean and healthy. If workers from other communities go on strike, then work pressure of others increase. The demand of the other association regarding reservation is unconstitutional.”
