8 Firs Lodged Against Cops In Narcotics Cases In 2 Years | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The Rajasthan police registered eight cases against cops in the last two years for their involvement in narcotic activities, including allegations of providing a helpling hand to smugglers, revealing a disconcerting nexus.
The figures show that 14 cops posted in Rajasthan, including a sub-inspector, have faced strong actions after their names appeared in NDPS cases. The PHQ took ordered actions against cops posted in different districts, including Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Sirohi, Jodhpur, Pali, Bikaner, and Bhilwara.
The Rajasthan police from 2021 to 2022 filed a total of 6,107 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, submitting 4,999 chargesheets.
However, during these investigations, a shocking revelation also revealed, pointing to an alleged nexus between certain cops and drug smugglers. In Dungarpur, two constables were issued notices under the service rules, while one constable was dismissed from service by the Chittorgarh police after his name emerged in connection with an NDPS case. The most highlighted example of cops assisting smugglers came to light in 2022 in the Sirohi district, where a sub-inspector and three constables were terminated from police services after being found in cahoots with smugglers.
A detailed probe preceded actions that were also taken against constables in Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Bhilwara, resulting in their suspension from the police force. Sources claimed actions were taken against the cops after they were booked under different sections of the NDPS Act, including Section 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy).
The police officials said that narcotic smuggling remains a major cause for concern, with several gangs now attempting to maximize their gains in this lucrative trade.
However, the involvement of cops in illicit activities also raises questions about moles within the police force because multiple operations have been launched in the state to weed out narcotic mafias from taking deep roots in Rajasthan.
