Handicraft Exports: ‘designing Key To Trippling Handicraft Exports By 2030’ | Jaipur News

‘Jaipur: Handicrafts exports declined by 10% in 2022-23 to reach a little over Rs 30,000 crore but the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) believes that new opportunities have emerged after global companies adopted China-plus-one policy.
Accordingly, the council has set a target of tripling the exports to around Rs 1 lakh crore by 2030 and has chalked out a strategy to reach there riding on a set of initiatives.
Designing, harnessing productivity gains and rebranding the India handicraft stack are some of the strategies the council is currently working on to reach the 2030 goal. It conducted a designing workshop for handicraft industry in the Pink City on Saturday as part of the series.
Dileep Baid, chairman of EPCH, said, “If the Indian handicraft industry seeks to play a key global role, designing must headline the narrative. That’s why the focus is on leveraging the new trends much before other countries gain scale.”
EPCH started inking agreements with the designing institutes in the country and abroad and wants to create a pool of designers who can be tapped by the exporters.
“We not only want to hold workshops for exporters at various handicraft hubs in the country like we did in Jaipur, but make the pool of designers available to them,” added Baid. tnn
