Neet Aspirant From Bengal Fallsto Death From 6th Floor In Kota | Jaipur News
Kota: A 20-year-old NEET aspirant from West Bengal died after falling from the 6th floor of his hostel building in Kota’s Jawahar Nagar police station area on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Ishanshu Bhattacharya (20), a resident of Dhupguri in Jalpaiguri district. He had been preparing for the medical entrance test at a coaching institute in Kota and was staying in a hostel here since August 2022.
On Thursday night, Bhattacharya and three others were talking on the balcony and around 11.15pm, they went to their respective rooms to retire for the night, said circle officer DSP Amar Singh on Friday.
“While Bhattacharya was putting on his slippers using the window aluminium net of the balcony for support, he suddenly lost balance. The net, which couldn’t withstand his weight, broke off and he fell on the road. Bhattacharya was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him dead,” he added.
Taking note of the negligence of the hostel management, Kota hostel association immediately after the mishap decided to blacklist the concerned ‘Vatsalya Residency’ hostel and issued an SOP on safety and security measures in the hostel building to all the hostel proprietors in the city. Footage of a CCTV camera installed in the hostel balcony also surfaced on Friday.
Police have kept the body in the mortuary of MBS Hospital for post-mortem after the arrival of Bhattacharya’s family.
In a similar accident on January 29, a 17-year-old JEE-Mains aspirant — a 12 class student and resident of Chikhli city of Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, sustained critical injuries after allegedly falling from the balcony of his hostel building on Road No. 2 under Vigyan Nagar police station area in Kota. He is still battling for life at a private hospital.
Addition district magistrate ADM Rajkumar Singh said prima facie it looked like negligence on part of the hostel management. He said, “the nodal officer has been directed to submit a factual report in the matter”.
