Season of big, fat NRI weddings in Rajasthan this winter

JAIPUR: As Covid has gone, wedding planners of Rajasthan are upbeat as they have got good bookings for the NRI and other weddings to be organised during winter season. The recent marriage of Aam Aadmi Party leader Raghav Chadha and actress Parineeti Chopra in Udaipur is not a lone example to gauge the potential the state and its archeological beauty as many similar weddings were organised in Rajasthan in the past.
Wedding planners in the state talked hopefully of how this year’s wedding business would be fruitful for hotels, palaces, food caterers, bandwallahs and others associated with this industry.
According to sources, majority of the 5-star and other big properties are sold out for November and December. Most of the inquiries have turned into bookings by the NRIs. As per the estimate of wedding planners, their hands are full with many NRI weddings and other weddings to be organised in November and December.
“We had tough time when even the domestic clients were not turning up. Amidst Covid-19 restrictions when marriages were cancelled or postponed many of us had heavy losses. However the time has now changed. Now, inquiry from countries like United Kingdom, Finland and Canada and others are materialising into bookings. This year’s weddings would be tough job. Everyone, including caterers, decorators, sound system and bandwallahs, have increased their prices,” said Arshad Hussain, one of the wedding managers of Jaipur who organises weddings at various properties in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur and other parts of Rajasthan.
Hussain said some of the clients have already visited them for inquiry and finally for bookings. “Most of the 5-star properties are almost sold out in Rajasthan for November and December. It is difficult to get bookings for various days which are planned for weddings,” Hussain added.
“NRIs want to tick all the boxes on their own. They want to see the 5-star property now, finalise the kind of food to be served, the music to be played. In December, I have to look after at least 15 gala weddings,” said Mohit Sand, another wedding planner based at Jaipur.
Wedding planners said during December 2022 despite lifting of Covid restrictions, people came with limited guests. “But this time, they are asking for guests varying from 2,000 to 5,000 people. And they want everything from booking of their flights for arrival and departure at wedding destination, 5-star hotel, catering, gifts and other things,” Sand added.
Rajasthan has always appealed the NRIs and even celebrities to organise their weddings at palaces turned 5-star hotels and at other archaeological beauties.
This year the auspicious days for marriage in November are 23rd, 27th, 28th and 29th, and in December the days are 6th, 7th, 9th and 15th.
