Jaipur: BJP rebel and former minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat, who had filed nomination as an independent candidate for Jhotwara seat, on Thursday announced withdrawal of his nomination. Addressing the media, he said that after having (telephonic) talks with party leader Amit Shah, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and other leaders, he decided to withdraw his nomination.“It is more important to form the BJP government in the state replacing the corrupt Congress,” he said. Singh was in the race to become BJP’s candidate from Jhotwara seat but was denied a ticket. The party fielded Jaipur Rural MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore from Jhotwar. TNN

A total of 544 candidates, including Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Dr CP Joshi and former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, have filed nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections. This brings the total number of candidates to 1079, who have filed 1462 nomination forms for 191 constituencies. The last day for filing nominations is Monday, and voting for the 200 seats in the state is scheduled for November 25.

Rameshwar Dadhich, a close aide of Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, has withdrawn his nomination as an independent candidate for the upcoming state assembly polls and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Another former Congress member, Vinod Sharma, also joined the BJP on the same day. Dadhich cited his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision-making capacity and credited him for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Several other rebels from the BJP have not withdrawn their nominations, leading to triangular contests in some constituencies. The Rajasthan Assembly elections will be held on November 25.
